Dr.Bindeshwar Pathak is an Indian social reformer who founded Sulabh International, a nonprofit organization that works to promote human rights, environmental sanitation, non-conventional sources of energy, waste management and social reforms.
Dr.Bindeshwar Pathak was born on 2nd April 1943 (75 Years), to a traditional upper-class Brahmin family in Rampur Baghel village in Bihar, India. He married Amla Pathak in 1965 and has three children.
Dr.Bindeshwar Pathak was graduated in Sociology in 1964. He took his Master's Degree in 1980 and completed PhD in 1985, from the University of Patna.
Dr.Bindeshwar Pathak also authored several books, the most well-known of which is 'The Road to Freedom' and is a frequent participant in conferences on sanitation, health and social progress around the world. On 12 July 2017, Pathak's book 'The Making of a Legend', on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was launched in New Delhi.
Dr.Bindeshwar Pathak was awarded the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India in 1991 in recognition of his social work. He is also the recipient of the Energy Globe Award, the Dubai International Award for Best Practices, and the Indira Gandhi Priyadarshini Award for Environment.
Dr.Bindeshwar Pathak in 2009, was awarded the Stockholm Water Prize. In April 2016, the Mayor of New York declared 14 April 2016 as “Dr. Bindeshwar Pathak Day.”
Dr.Bindeshwar Pathak has been honored with Japan's prestigious Nikkei Asia Prize-2018, for his eminent discovery of two-pit pour-flush ecological compost toilet, known as the Sulabh toilet
