Google Doodle is celebrating the 109th birthday of Dr. Virginia Apgar, an inventor of Apgar score on 7th June 2018.
Dr. Virginia Apgar was an American obstetrical (childbirth) anesthetist. She invented 'Apgar Score' a method to summarise the birth of newborns.
Dr. Virginia Apgar developed the score in the year 1952 to quantify the effect of obstetric anesthesia on babies. This technique is still vastly used in hospitals of United States.
Dr. Virginia Apgar was born on 7th June 1909 in New Jersey, United States. She died on 7th August 1974 due to liver cirrhosis.
Dr. Virginia Apgar got graduated from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1933 and became the first women to head a specialty division at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
Dr. Virginia Apgar is popularly known for her work in the field of anesthesiology and teratology, anesthetics and the study of abnormalities of psychological development in newly-born babies.
Dr. Virginia Apgar is also known for his valuable contribution, to the book named "Is My Baby All Right? A Guide to Birth Defects", written with Joan Beck. During her career, she received several awards & honors from the US government.
Today, Google has created a Doodle that shows Dr. Virginia Apgar observing newborns and taking notes on a notepad.
