The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed former Supreme Court Judge Justice R K Agrawal as President of National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC).
Justice R.K Agarwal will succeed Justice D K Jain, who has completed his term. Justice RK Agrawal was the judge of Supreme Court from February 2014 to May 2018 and had served on the bench of the supreme court for 4 years.
Justice R.K Agrawal graduated in law from Allahabad University and enrolled as an Advocate in 1976. He was elevated as a permanent judge of the Allahabad High Court in 1999.
Justice R.K Agrawal took charge as the Acting Chief Justice of the Madras High Court in February 2013 and ten months later, assumed the office of Chief Justice of Madras High Court.
NCDRC is a quasi-judicial commission set up under Consumer Protection Act of 1986. It addresses grievances of the aggrieved consumer for goods and services having value over Rs. 1 crore. It was established in 1988 and is headquartered in New Delhi. The commission is headed by sitting or retired judge of Supreme Court of India.
