The Tamil Nadu Assembly passes the amendment bill Prevention of Cruelty to animals (Tamil Nadu) Act, 2017.
The amendment bill states that Jallikattu can be practised in the state without any fear.
The bill defines Jallikattu as an event involving bulls conducting in a view of tradition and culture from January to May.
The members of the legislative assembly adopted the bill at a special session held after the protests at Marina Beach.
The amended bill also include the events like ‘manjuviratu’, ‘vadamadu’ and ‘erudhuvidum’ festivals.
The bill states that conserving and continuance of the native breeds of bulls.
The Tamil Nadu government has also decided to exempt Jallikattu from the provisions of PCA Act.
The amended bill Prevention of Cruelty to animals (Tamil Nadu) Act, 2017 come into effect on 21st January.
