Scientists develop new technique to generate plastic from pine trees

Nowadays maximum of the plastic is being generated from oil that in unsuitable for our environment.

But the Scientists from the Centre for Sustainable Chemical Technologies (CSCT) at the University of Bath have brought up a renewable plastic from a chemical called pinene.

Pinene is an aromatic chemical that comes from the pine needles of the terpene family.

The terpene family provides the pine trees with the extraordinary ‘Christmas smell’

The researchers are expecting that this kind of plastic can be used in a wide variety of utilizations like food packaging, plastic bags along with the medical implants.

This research aims at using bio-based chemicals like pinene as a feasible material in place of petrochemicals and will decrease our dependence on fossil fuels.

Pinene is a waste material from the paper industries and also provides a renewable feedstock that has the caliber to bring a change in the chemical industry.
