Alpha Centauri is the closest star system to the Solar System at a distance of 4.37 light years and consists of 3 stars namely Alpha Centauri A, Alpha Centauri B and Alpha Centauri C.
Astronomers are conducting a search for planets in the nearby star system Alpha Centauri as these planets can be the targets for a prospective launch of miniature space probe by the Breakthrough Starshot initiative.
