Gene Cernan joined NASA in the year 1963 and after the successful mission of Gemini 9, he was selected as the pilot of Apollo 10 and Apollo 17.
Gene Cernan also made records throughout his career, he attained the highest speed of manned vehicle at 24,791 mph and unofficial lunar land record of 18.0 km/h.
