Lohri celebration one day before Makar Sankranti, significance

Lohri is celebrated one day before Makar Sankranti on 13th January in states like Punjab, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir.

Lohri is a festival to burn fire, eat and drink around the fire and enjoy.

Lohri celebration on a huge scale for new married couples and new born babies first Lohri

Lohri is special for new married couples and child’s first lohri where the married couple parents send lohri greetings, revdi, fruits and desserts.

The special activity of this festival is that children went every house, sings Lohri song and ask for gifts.

At the evening women gather and burn fire in the open place.

Women also put Revdi, maize grains and peanuts and move around the burn fire.

It is also believed that after Lohri people get relief from cold.

People offer sesame, Jaggery, Peanuts, Gajak and maize corns are the main offerings.
