Digital India: Chip based biometric e-passport for security

 

 

India Security Press, Nashik and IIT Kanpur designed chip based biometric e-passport for for enhanced security on borders 

The Government of India is preparing to launch biometric e-passport to yield passport information through electronic media.

Government is preparing to build chip based e-passport where the person’s information and digital image is present.

The benefit of e-passport is that the information will be safe and secure and reduces the risk of fraud passport.

E-passport has been encrypted with a chip in which the information of the applicant of the passport is saved exactly as the passport data page

E-passport will help the immigration department to know about the fraud passports and to take actions against the same.

The other advantage of e-passport is that the passport can be saved in the mobile phones.

The new passport has been designed by India Security Press, Nashik and IIT Kanpur.

at the intital stage, the chip will be of 64 KB which will have the photograph of the passport holder and the fingerprint.
