Fibroin a new 3D biodegradable material derived from silk

Material Science: Researchers develop three dimensional bulk material created out of Fibroin

The researchers have developed a new material which can be created out of the silk protein.

The material so obtained can be used for biological, chemical and optical functions.

Reseachers also develop pin that changes colour

The researchers have developed three dimensional bulk materials out of silk fibroin which is a protein that helps the silk to be durable.

The researchers have used a water based fabrication method based on protein self-assembly.

After the generation of three dimensional materials, the researchers then manipulated the material in bulk materials with water-soluble molecules to create multiple solid forms.

The researchers have also created a surgical pin that changes colour when it is put near to mechanical limits.

The silk protein, Fibroin is biocompatible and biodegradable.
