Running administration of the Country: The Council of Ministers runs the administration of whole of the country through various departments. The ministers are responsible towards the Parliament for the working of their departments.
Determination of Policies: The Council of Ministers determines various policies, i.e., the foreign policy, education policy and import-export policy etc. for the country.
Enactment of Law: Every minister prepares the Bills relating to his departments and presents them before the Parliament. The Bill becomes the law when assented to by the President of India.

Pacts etc. with Foreign Nations: The Council of Ministers enters into various pacts, peace treaties and trading relations with the foreign nations.
Administration of State during Emergency: The Council of Ministers, during emergency exercise various powers in the administrative affairs of the State.
Making Appointments: The Council of Ministers take various administrative decisions, such as the appointment of the Judges, the Governors of States and various other high officials.
