Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty pair have bagged the ‘Silver Medal’ for India, on the last day of the 21st Commonwealth Games in the men's doubles badminton competition held at the Carrara Sports Arena on 15th April 2018.
Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty pair achieved the feat after losing their final match against England’s pair of Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge in a 39-minute men’s doubles final at the Carrara Sports Arena.
Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty pair were dominated by Rio Olympics bronze medalist English pair Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge with a scoreline of 13-21, 16-21.
Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty became the first ever men pair to win a medal in the CWG-2018 event. Their feat made India ended their highly successful badminton campaign with six medals, which include the mixed team event gold.
Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty form a formidable pair. It was the Tata Open India International Challenge win that brought them into the limelight in 2016.
Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty pair had also won Vietnam Open International Challenge. They had managed to top former Olympic and world champion Markis Kido and his partner Hendra Gunawan en route the title.
Satwik Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty had also qualified for the Glasgow World Championship and managed to reach the quarterfinals at the Korea Open and the French Open.
Earlier, in 2018, Satwik and Chirag made it to the semifinals at Indonesia Masters and All England quarterfinals.
