Manika Batra has bagged the 25th ‘Gold Medal’ for India, on the tenth day of the 21st Commonwealth Games in the women's single Table Tennis competition held at the Oxenford Studio Centre on 14th April 2018.
Manika Batra with this feat has become the first Indian woman table tennis player to win a singles gold at the Commonwealth Games Event.
Manika Batra achieved the feat to top the podium by defeating Singapore’s Mengyu Yu in straight sets of 11-7, 11-6, 11-2 and 11-7 in the finals.
Earlier, Manika Batra in women's doubles category of Table Tennis competition had won ‘Silver Medal’ paring with Mouma Das against Singapore's Tainwei Feng and Mengyu Yu in the CWG-2018 event.
Manika Batra, a young Indian T.T player (22 years) who hails from New Delhi, had also helped her team to clinch ‘Gold Medal’ in the CWG-2018 event by defeating Singapore’s Tianwei Feng in her part, a set of 11-8, 8-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-7.
Earlier, Manika Batra in her career had also won three ‘Gold Medals’ at the 2016 South Asian Games, winning the women's doubles event (with Pooja Sahasrabudhe), mixed doubles event (with Anthony Amalraj) and women's team event (with Mouma Das and Shamini Kumaresan) and many more.`
