MC Mary Kom has bagged the 18th ‘Gold Medal’ for India, on the 10th day of the 21st Commonwealth Games in the women's 48 kg category of boxing competition on14th April 2018.
MC Mary Kom with her feat became first Indian women to win 'Gold' in 48 Kg Boxing CWG competition. This was her maiden medal too in Commonwealth Games.
Indian Star Boxer, MC Mary Kom (35 years old) who hails from Manipur, achieved the feat by beating Northern Ireland’s Kristina O’ Hara with 5-0 match points.
Mary Kom, a five-time world champion won by a scoreline of 30-27, 30-27, 29-28, 30-27, 20-27 to conquer the victory against Northern Ireland’s Kristina O Hara.
Earlier, Mary Kom had won ‘Gold Medal’ in 48 Kg category boxing competition in 2017 Asian Women’s Championship held in Vietnam, ‘Gold Medal’ in 2014 Asian Games held in South Korea.
Mary Kom had also won ‘Gold Medals’ in 41Kg to 48 Kg categories of boxing completions at the Asian Women’s Championships in the years 2003, 2005, 2010, 2012, 2017. She stood for ‘Silver Medal’ in 2008 Asian Women’s Championship.
Mary Kom also won ‘Gold Medals’ in 2011 Asian Women’s Cup held in Haikou, China & 2010 Women's World Amateur Boxing Championships and many more.
MC Mary Kom had been honored with several International and National awards in her =magnificent career as an Olympic boxer for over 16 years. She became the first Indian amateur athlete to win the Padma Bhushan (Sports) in the year2013. She also won Padma Shri Award (2006) and Arjuna Award in the year 2003.
