Bajrang Punia has bagged the 17th Gold Medal for India, on the ninth day of the 21st Commonwealth Games in the men's freestyle 65kg category of wrestling competition on 13th April 2018.
Bajrang Punia (24 years old) who hails from Haryana, feat has amazed the competition far behind by winning the third ‘Gold Medal’ for India in the men’s freestyle wrestling competition in CWG-2018.
Bajrang Punia grappler was declared winner in the final by technical superiority as his opponent Kane Charig of Wales could not score a single point against his score of 10-0 in the first round.
In the CWG-2018 semi-final, Bajrang Punia defeated Vincent De Marinis of Canada after he overpowered New Zealand’s Brahm Richards in the first bout.
In the CWG-2018 quarter-finals, Bajrang Punia had defeated Nigeria’s Amas Daniel, building up a 10-0 lead early in the second round.
Earlier, Bajrang Punia had won ‘Silver Medal’ in the CWG-2014 held in Glasgow. This is his second achievement in Commonwealth Games.
Bajrang Punia is World Championship-2013 ‘Bronze Medalist’. He had also won ‘Gold Medals’ in the Commonwealth Championship in 2016 and 2017 at Singapore and South Africa respectively.
