CWG 2018: Babita Kumari Phogat Bags Silver Medal For India in Wrestling Event

Commonwealth Games-2018 also known as Gold Coast 2018 was inaugurated on 4th April 2018 at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, It has to be held from 4th April to 15 April 2018

Babita Kumari Phogat has bagged the ‘Silver Medal’ for India, on the 8th day of the 21st Commonwealth Games in the women's freestyle 53kg category of Nordic wrestling competition on 12th April 2018.

Babita Phogat has achieved the feat against losing with Canada’s Diana Weicker. This was India’s first any medal in the CWG-2018 wrestling event.

Babita Phogat lost her bout to Canadian Diana Weicker with the final score of 2-5 in the summit clash.

Earlier, Babita Phogat had won ‘Silver Medal’ in the women's freestyle 51-kilogram category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi, India. She lost against Nigerian wrestler Ifeoma Christi Nwoye by a final score of 4-5.

Babita Phogat also won ‘Gold Medal’ in the women's freestyle 48 kg category in 2011 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship tournament held in Melbourne, Australia.

Babita Phogat had also won ‘Gold Medal’ in the women's freestyle 51-kilogram category at the 2009 Commonwealth Games held in Jalandhar, India.

Indian female wrestler, Babita Phogat (28 years old) who hails from Haryana, belongs to a wrestler’s family. Her father Mahavir Singh Phogat was a wrestler and Dronacharya Award recipient.

Babita Phogat is a real younger sister of gold medalist Geeta Phogat. Her two younger sisters Ritu Phogat and Sangita Phogat are international level wrestlers. She also has a cousin brother name Vinesh Phogat who won a gold medal in 20th CWG-2014 held in Glasgow.
