CWG 2018: Sushil Kumar Bags 14th Gold Medal For India in Wrestling Event

Commonwealth Games-2018 also known as Gold Coast 2018 was inaugurated on 4th April 2018 at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, It has to be held from 4th April to 15 April 2018

Sushil Kumar has bagged the 14th Gold Medal for India, on the eighth day of the 21st Commonwealth Games in the men's freestyle 74kg category of wrestling competition on 12th April 2018.

Sushil Kumarfeat has amazed the competition far behind by winning the second ‘Gold Medal’ for India in the wrestling competition in CWG-2018. He is the two-time Olympic medallist entered the CWG final for the third consecutive time and won in freestyle. 

Veteran Indian Wrester, Sushil Kumar (34 years old) who hails from Delhi, achieved his feat in CWG-2018, against Johannes Botha of South Africa by Technical Superiority making the final score of 10-0.

Earlier, Sushil Kumar had won ‘Gold Medal’ in the men's freestyle 74-kilogram category at the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow, Scotland. He defeated Pakistan’s Qamar Abbas by 107 sec by fall.

Sushil Kumar had also won ‘Gold Medal’ in the men's freestyle 66-kilogram category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi, India. He defeated South Africa’s Heinrich Barnes by 7-0 in finals.

Sushil Kumar is the only Indian sportsperson with two Olympic medals to his name. He won 'Bronze Medal' at the 2008 Beijing Olympics becoming the first Indian to win a wrestling medal at the Olympics since 1952.

Sushil Kumar is a proud recipient of many national awards and recognition such as Arjuna Award in 2005, India's highest sporting honor Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award (joint) and Padma Shri Award in 2011.
