Commonwealth Games-2018 also known as Gold Coast 2018 was inaugurated on 4th April 2018 at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, It has to be held from 4th April to 15 April 2018
Punam Yadav has bagged the fifth Gold Medal for India, on the 4th day of the 21st Commonwealth Games in the women's 69kg category of weightlifting competition held on 8th April 2018.
Indian Weightlifter, Punam Yadav (22 years old) feat came after lifting a personal best of total 222kg in snatch and clean & jerk.
Punam Yadav achieved the ‘Gold’ by lifting 110 kg in snatch and 122 kg in clean and jerk, making a total of (110kg+122kg)=222 kg.
Punam Yadav assured herself for Gold after defeating England’s Sarah Davies, who finished second claiming ‘Silver’ with a total lift of 217kg (95kg in snatch+122kg in clean & jerk).The ‘Bronze medal’ was won by Fiji’s Apolonia Vaivai with an effort of 216kg (100kg+116kg).
Earlier, Punam Yadav in 20th Commonwealth Games had won her debut ‘Bronze Medal’ in 63 kg category of weightlifting in 2014 edition CWG held in Glasgow, Scotland. She has won with a total lift of 222 kg (88kg+114kg).
Punam Yadav was born on 25 July 1995 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. She has represented her college team Kashi Vidyapeeth, Varanasi at the national level.
Till now, Mirabai Chanu (48kg), Sanjita Chanu (53kg), Sathish Sivalingam (77kg) and Venkat Rahul Ragala (85kg) had claimed ‘Gold Medals’ in the CWG-2018 'Gold Coast'edition.
