Commonwealth Games-2018 also known as Gold Coast 2018 was inaugurated on 4th April 2018 at Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, It has to be held from 4th April to 15 April 2018
Sathish Kumar Sivalingam has bagged the third Gold Medal for India, on the third day of the 21st Commonwealth Games in the men's 77kg category of senior weightlifting competition on 7th April 2018.
Sathish Kumar (25 years old) from Vellore, Tamil Nadu has amazed the CWG competition far behind by his lifts with a total effort of 317 kg (144kg in snatch, 173 kg in clean & jerk).
Sathish Kumar registered his best by lifting 136kg weight in his first attempt, 140kg in second attempt and final 144 kg in his third attempt in the snatch.
Sathish Kumar impressed all by lifting 169kg weight in his first attempt, 173kg in the second/ final attempt in the clean & jerks confirming himself for ‘Gold’.
England's Jack Oliver secured silver with a combined effort of 312 kg, followed by Australia's Francois Etoundi (305 kg), who in a freak incident, tore his left bicep after the final lift.
Earlier, Sathish Kumar had also won the ‘Gold Medal’ in the men's 77kg category of senior weightlifting competition of 20th Commonwealth Games-2014 held in Glasgow, Scotland.
Sathish Kumar was the winner of the inaugural Mahindra Scorpio Times of India (TOISA) Weightlifter of the Year award in 2015.
In 2016, Sathish Kumar qualified for the Rio Olympics but finished 11th place. In 2013 and 2017, he also won gold at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships
