Saikhom Mirabai Chanu has bagged the first Gold Medal for India, on the inaugural day of the 21st Commonwealth Games in the women's 48kg category of weightlifting competition on 5th April 2018.
Manipuri Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu (23 years old) feat has amazed the competition far behind by setting Games and Commonwealth records in the snatch, clean and jerk as well as the total.
Mirabai Chanu registered her best by lifting 80kg weight in her first attempt, 84kg in the second attempt and final 86 kg in the third attempt in the snatch.
Mirabai Chanu also registered her best by lifting 103kg weight in her first attempt, 107kg in the second attempt and final 110 kg in the third attempt in the clean & jerk.
Mirabai Chanu recorded her best total of 196 kg (86kg+110kg). With this, she had broken the record of 175kg set by Nigeria’s Augustine Nwaokolo in 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi.
Mauritius weightlifter, Marie Hanitra finished a distant second best by lifting a total weight of 170 kg, claiming ‘Silver Medal’ in the women's 48kg category of weightlifting.
Sri Lanka, Dinusha Gomes finished third Bronze best by lifting a total weight of 155 kg, claiming ‘Broze Medal’ in the women's 48kg category of weightlifting.
