Naresh Kumar Gupta who is a retired Judge of Madhya Pradesh high court has been appointed as The Lokayukta (Ombudsman) of Madhya Pradesh on 17 October 2017.
The Lokayukta post of Madhya Pradesh had been lying vacant before Naresh Gupta appoint for this post since June 2016 after the retirement of PP Naolekar, former Justice of Supreme Court.
Since then, UC Maheshwari, former Judge of MP High Court, who was looking after the work of Lokayukta.
Earlier, Justice Naresh Kumar Gupta has served the Madhya Pradesh state government as legal advisor. He was appointed as high court Judge in 2010 and retired on 30 June 2017.
The appointment of Lokayukta is done with the consent of leader of the opposition and chief justice of high court as per Lokayukta Act.
