CJI Nuttalapati Venkata Ramana is 48th Chief Justice of India

 

 

Justice Nuttalapati Venkata Ramana became the 48th Chief Justice of India (CJI) today 24th April 2021.

President Ramnath Kovind administered him the oath of office at 11 am. Several judges of the Supreme Court were present in the program including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Venkaiah Naidu.

Prior to his appointment to the Supreme Court in 2014, N.V. Ramana was the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court. His term as Chief Justice of India will be till 26 August 2022. In this way, he will remain in this important post for 16 months.

In the last few years, the most popular decision of Justice N.V. Ramna has been to restore the internet in Jammu and Kashmir. He also presided over the bench which ordered the creation of special courts in every state for speedy hearing of pending cases against MPs / MLAs. Justice Ramna has also been a member of the bench which gave the decision to bring the office of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court under the purview of the Right to Information Act (RTI).
