Chakmas observe a Chakma Black Day to condemn the award of their mainland Chittagong Hills to East Pakistan in 1947. This partition seeded the ill fate for Chakma people.
Chakmas refused to be part of Bangladesh when it was formed in 1971. They launched their struggle Shanti Bahini for autonomy.
