About the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI):

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is the Chief Investigation Agency of the Government of India.

It is used to investigate various types of cases related to criminal and national security.

It works under the Department of Personnel and Training.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has originated from the Special Police Establishment established by the Government of India in the year 1941.

About the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC):

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) of India is the highest organization of corruption related to the officers/employees of different departments of the Government of India.

It was established in the year 1964. The formation of this commission was recommended by the Santhanam Committee (1962-64), which was constituted to provide correlation related to corruption.

The Central Vigilance Commission is free from the control of any executive authority and monitors all vigilance activities under the Central Government.

It advises various authorities in Central Government Organizations to plan, execute, review and improve their vigilance work.

The Central Vigilance Commission Bill was passed by the two Houses of Parliament in 2003, which was approved by the President on 11 September 2003.

The Commission consists of a president and two vigilance commissioners whose appointment is on the recommendation of a three-member committee.

In this committee, the Prime Minister is the Leader of Opposition and the Union Home Minister in the Lok Sabha. Their tenure is up to 4 years or till the age of 65 (whichever is earlier).
