Indian National Congress Indira Gandhi National Integration Award's features, Objective, and aims 

The Indira Gandhi Award was established in 1985 by the Congress Party in its centenary year. It consists of a citation and a cash prize worth Rs 10 lakh.

The Award is conferred on 31 October for promoting national integration, understanding, and fellowship among different communities and cultures of India.

The earlier recipients of the award include spiritual leader Swami Ranganathananda. Freedom fighter Aruna Asaf Ali, the Bharat Scouts and Guides, bureaucrat P N Haksar.

Since MS Subbulakshmi, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi (posthumously) and former presidents Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam and Shakar Dayal Sharma (posthumously).

Others winners include the Kasturba Gandhi National Memorial Trust (Indore, Madhya Pradesh) musician A R Rahaman and Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Narainpur, Chhattishgarh (jointly), poet Gulzar, scientist Dr. M S Swaninathan and activist P V Rajagopal, filmmaker Shyam Benegal and lyricist Javed Akhtar.
