The ports in India of Cargo showed a growth of 5.2% during the first six months (April-September) of financial year 2016-17.
The cargo ports were managed 315.4 Million tonnes of cargo this year and in the last year it managed 299.5 million tonnes.
The ministry of shipping has earlier taken measures of mechanisation of the terminals, expansion of infrastructure, improving the turn-around-time (TAT), quick departure of cargo and skill development of the employees.
The measures were taken for the growth of cargo and hence reveals positive results.
The highest growth in traffic was recorded at Murmogao port at the first six months of financial year 2016-17.
It showed a growth of 61% at Murmigao, 11% at Vishakhapatnam, 7.1% at Kandkla, 5.2% at Cochin, 3.4% at New Mangalore Port and 0.3% at Chennai port.
