New species of millipede found in sequoia National, California

 

 

New species of millipede Illacme tobini has been found in Sequoia National Park, California.

Millipede has been named Illacme tobini and this study was published in ZooKeys.

Millipede is the evolutionary cousin of illacme plenipes.

Many spiders and pseudoscrorpians were also discovered at the Sequoia National Park.

This new species have 414 legs while the other relative species have 750 legs

Millipede has functional features that its body is covered with 200 poison glands, silk-secreting hairs and four penises.

Its closest relative lives in gaint sandstone boulders outside San Juan Baustista in California.

This is the evolutionary cousin of the leggiest animal on the planet of Illacme Plenipes.

It has been given the name after a cave biologist Ben Tobin of the National Park Service.
