Cabinet Approves To Upgrade Integrated Terminals At Chennai, Guwahati, Lucknow Airports- Details, Project Features, Purpose

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved to the project of expanding and upgrading integrated terminals at Chennai, Guwahati and Lucknow Airports on 2nd May 2018.

The CCEA decision came after the Government of India has given an enhanced trust for the infrastructure sector in the Union Budget 2018-19.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is in the process of implementing plans for the development of infrastructure to meet growing aviation demand by creating additional capacity at AAI Airports with a Capex of Rs.20178 crores in the next 5 years.

Chennai Airport

Construction of New Integrated Terminal will be carried with a cost of Rs.2467 crores with a total built-up area of 336000 sqm with an annual capacity to handle 35 mppa.

The new terminal building incorporates green building features with an aim to achieve GRIHA-4 Star rating. The building would cater to the requirement of passenger growth up to the year 2026-27.

Guwahati Airport

Construction of New Integrated Terminal will be carried with a cost of Rs.2467 crore.New Terminal Building shall have an area of 102500 sqm to handle combined annual capacity (old and new terminals) of 9 mppa.

The building would cater to the requirement of passenger growth up to the year 2026-27. This will encourage investment & tourism in NER with thrust on ‘Act East’ Policy.

Lucknow Airport

Construction of New Integrated Terminal will be carried at a cost of Rs.1232 crores. It will cater an area of 88,000 sqm along with the existing terminal building with 16292 sqm and will have an annual capacity to handle 2.6 million international and 11 million domestic passenger traffic.

The new terminal building would facilitate the requirement of passenger growth up to the year 2030-31.
