C-60 commandos concept is given by former D.G. KP Raghuvanshi when he was Superintendent of Police in Gadhchirauli district, Maharashtra in 1989-90.
Firstly 60 tribal people were recruited from many villages in the district. At present, 800 units are included in this unit and they work in 24 different parts of Gadchiroli.
Commands of C-60 are highly trained. C-60 commandos are speaking local languages like Gondi and Marathi. Naxalites commonly speak these languages in these areas. C-60 commandos are better trained for using gadgets and all types of technical equipment.
C-60 commandos are better trained for survival. In the event of a war in the forest, they are capable to beat Naxalites.
C-60 commandos are the only force in the country that collects, collates and analyzes information and also engage in operations against Maoists.
The C-60 commandos are also organizing several civic programs like bridge gap between locals and police and motivate local population to have faith in the government.
