Biology: Fentanyl drug deadly features, killer dose, history and effects

Fentanyl transdermal patch is used to treat chronic pain in opioid-tolerant people. These are people who have taken another opioid pain drug that no longer works as well. Fentanyl is a prescription drug. It was first made by Paul Janssen in 1960 and use for medical approval given of US in 1968. It contains Transdermal patch, Buccal tablet, Sublingual Tablet, Sublingual spray, Oral lozenge, Nasal spray, and Injectible.

“Fentanyl is 50 to 100 times more concentrated than morphine,” says Professor Farrell. 

Fentanyl may cause serious harm or death if used accidentally by a child or by an adult who has not been prescribed the medication. Even partially used fentanyl may contain enough medication to cause serious harm or death to children or other adults. 

The most common effect includes diarrhea, nausea, constipation, dry mouth, headache, fatigue, anorexia and weight loss, dizziness, nervousness etc. 

Research in animals has shown dangerous effects to the fetus when the mother takes the drug. However, animal studies don’t always predict the way humans would respond. We should keep this drug in between 20 to 25-degree Celcius.

In 2017, more than 25000 people dead because of synthetic opioids in the US only.
