The phase-I of the nation optic fibre network (Bharat Net Project) announced that it is expected to it will be completed by December 2017, which is providing internet access to 100,000 Gram Panchayats.
Aruna Sundararajan, who is Secretary Department of Telecommunications was announced the same at the fourth edition of i-Bharat 2017 conference.
The Conference was organized in New Delhi by FICCI in association with the ministry of electronics and information technology-based theme of ICT Educations for Unserved and Unsolved.
Earlier, Bharat Net Project has connected 83.000-gram panchayat, but now it is imperative o create fibre-first programme, where Government and Public sector join hand to achieve objective of doubling the reach of telecom fibre network in the country by 2020
The Primary Objective of the project is to extend the existing optical fibre network up to Panchayat level. The government has planned to make this network available to telecom service providers and as a highway for transmission of voice, data, and video in rural areas.
The total project is being funded by Universal Service Obligation Fund. It was set up for improving telecom service in rural and remote areas of the country.
The objective is to facilitate the delivery of e-governance, e-health, e-education, e-banking, Internet and other services to the rural India.
