Effects of the Fall of Bastille And Achievements of The National Assembly (1789-1791)

The fall of Bastille was an event of utmost significance as it marked the end of the despotism of the king. The news of the fall of Bastille spread like wildfire throughout the country.

Municipal government like that of Paris, Was set up by other cities too and National Guards were also organized. The Revolution took the form of a rising against feudalism outside the towns. As has already been stated, the peasants involved making the revolution swing in full tide.

Achievements of The National Assembly (1789-1791)

The National Assembly in its memorable session on the night of August 4, 1789, passed a decree abolishing the feudal system of obligations and taxes. The nobles surrendered their feudal rights and privileges.

Members of the clergy too had to give up their privileges. Rights to hunting and other customary services were abolished, Tithes were abolished and lands owned by the Church were seized. Consequently, the assets of at least 2 billion lives came in the hands of the government.

Offices were thrown open to all. Thus, the principle of equality was declared to be the basis of the state and society.
