The Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Royana Singh became the first women Chief Proctor of the institution on 28 September 2017.
Rayana Singh becomes first woman proctor after varsity faced bad media over poor security to girl students. The appointment was approved by vice Chancellor Girish Chandra Tripathi.
Professor Rayana Singh comes at a time when the University is under the scanner for compromising women’s safety and two days after the resignation of her predecessor O.N. Singh.
Royana would be succeeding O.N. Singh, who resigned on 26 September taking moral responsibility for the recent incidents of violence on students inside the premises of the university.
Royana served as an assistant professor at the Institute of Medical Science (Anatomy Department).
Besides being the first woman ever to hold the post in the university’s history, Royana also heads the university’s women grievance cell of the BHU.
According to Rayana Singh, She has a zero-tolerance approach towards eve-teasing and will ensure nothing of the sort is repeated on campus.
Rayana Singh will be in touch with wardens and teachers and wardens.
Rayan Singh also told that She will be told to constantly interact with students so that we get to know of a problem at the start. But there is no gender discrimination on campus.
