India's Lakshya Sen Wins Bronze Medal In World Junior Badminton Championship: Details, Achievement, Highlights

India’s top junior shuttler Lakshya Sen (17-years-old) won a bronze medal at Li Ning BWF World Junior Badminton Championships 2018 held at Markham, Canada.

In the singles semi-final match, he lost to top seed and world junior number one Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand by the score of 22-20, 16-21, 13-21 score. This was Sen’s first medal from this prestigious tournament in three attempts.

It also makes him the first Indian since Siril Verma in 2015 to win a World Junior Championships medal. Verma bagged the men’s singles silver that year after losing the final to Chia-Hung Lu.

Till date, Saina Nehwal remains the only Indian to clinch a gold medal from this tournament, and she did so exactly 10 years ago. She also has won silver in 2006 in girls singles.

Earlier, RMV Gurusaidutt (2008), B Sai Praneeth (2010), HS Prannoy (2010) and Sameer Verma (2011) have won a bronze medal.

This was India’s fifth boys singles bronze medal at BWF World Junior Championships and only medal India got at this year’s Championships.
