The “Legal Initiative for Forest and Environment (LIFE),” a Delhi-based environmental organization, received the Right Livelihood Award 2021. This prize is often known as "Sweden's Nobel Prize without the Nobel."
Ole von Uexkull, who also happens to be the executive director of Right Livelihood, founded the Right Livelihood Award. The award recognizes and encourages individuals who are working to solve global issues. It includes a financial prize of 1 million Swedish crowns, as well as long-term support that promotes and enhances the work of the Laureates.
The jury of Stockholm-based Right Livelihood selects the awardees.
Following India's "environmental democracy," LIFE got the award for its groundbreaking legal work empowering people to safeguard their resources. Despite India's comprehensive environmental protection legal system, Right Livelihood claims that access to justice for people seeking to safeguard the country's remaining forests and biodiversity is often limited. LIFE was established to fill this void.
