Avani Chaturvedi is the first woman fighter pilot of India. Avani along with two other women pilots namely Bhawana Kanth and Mohana Singh achieved the feat of becoming first combat pilots in Indian Air Force (IAF) and got commissioned in June 2016.
Avani Chaturvedi was born on 27th October 1993, to a Brahmin family in Rewa, Madhya Pradesh. Her fatherDinkar Chaturvedi is an executive engineer in Water Resource Department of M.P Government and her mother is a home maker. She has an elder brother who is also an army officer.
Avani Chaturvedi completed her schooling from Adarsh Higher Secondary School situated at Deoland in Rewa. In 2014, she took B.Tech degree in Computer Science from Banasthali University, Jaipur. Later, -she qualified the IAF exam.
Avani Chaturvedi took six months of training on Kiran trainer jets at Hakimpet Air Force Station, Telangana and followed it with a one-year-long stint on Hawk advanced trainer jets at Bidar Air Force Station, Karnataka and one year of training from Dundigal Air Force Academy at Hyderabad, Telangana.
Avani Chaturvedi, in June 2016 got commissioned as a fighter pilot in the IAF passed from the first batch of three women pilots. Currently, she is posted at No. 23 Squadron (Panthers) in the IAF.
Avani Chaturvedi became the first Indian woman to fly a Fighter Jet (MiG-21Bison) solo on19th February 2018.
Avani Chaturvedi is an active sports person and love to play chess and table tennis. She also has a special interest in Art & Painting.
Avani Chaturvedi was influenced by her brother who is an Army officer and few hours of flying experience in college flying club which, inspired her to join the IAF.
