Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has presented the General Budget- 2018-19 on 1st Feb 2018 in Parliament, New Delhi.
Arun Jaitley has introduced ‘Operation Greens’ on the lines of ‘Operation Flood’ the measure has been initiated with the allocation of Rs 500 crores.
Operation Greens aims to promote Farmer Producers Organisations (FPOs), Agri-logistics, Processing facilities and Professional management.
Operation Greens focuses to benefit farmers to control and restrict the irregular fluctuations in the prices of onions, potatoes and tomatoes and also in augmenting the production of them.
According to Arun Jaitely, Operation Greens is a price fixation scheme which will ensure Indian farmers to get best and right price for their perishable commodities.
The Minimum Support Price (MSP) regulation is an essential part, to set minimum support price of all Kharif crops at 1.5 times the cost of production will increase the farmers’ income and for consumers, tax incentives will be given under Operation Greens.
Arun Jaitely also added the initiative of Operation Greens is believed to double the farmers' income by end of the year 2022.
