Ministry discovered new variety of Arhar Dal PUSA Arhar-16
The Union Ministry has found out a new variety of Arhar Dal known as PUSA Arhar-16.
The ministry will reveal this dal in January so that the farmers can plant it in next Kharif season.
This new variety gives 20 quintal per hectare and matures around 120 days.
The previous kinds of Arhar Dal takes 170-180 days for maturing and the average yield is almost same as of Arhar-16.
It is mostly suitable for Northern Plains like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh.
It facilitates the use of combined harvesters and high density.
It requires less manpower and allows effective spraying of pesticide.
This short-duration cultivation time will remove the existing paddy in the northern regions.
It takes less time due to which farmers get more time to grow other crops like potato, mustard etc.
