Carbon-free tourism initiative in Assam’s Majuli river island to encourage carbon-free tourism experience

The Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) will be launch the Majuli Sustainable Tourism Development Project (MSTDP) to encourage carbon-free tourism experience in the country's largest river island, Majuli on 2 November 2017.

The MSTDP will be managed by Root Bridge Foundation which is an NGO promoting sustainable tourism practices in northeast India.

Thirty cycles painted in orange (the colors of sunset) will be launched as part of the carbon-free travel experience at Majuli and also create an environmental protocol for the tourism industry in the island.

The Assam government had recently announced that Majuli will be the first carbon-neutral district in India and major steps have been initiated to achieve the same.
