The 2G spectrum scam was one of the biggest scams of India under UPA (Congress) Government it was rooted in the year 2007-2008, when the DMK, politician Andimuthu Raja, became the Minister Of Communications & Information Technology.
The 2G spectrum scam caught a limelight in the year 2010-2011 when the opposition demanded an investigation against the scam then the Comptroller General of India (CGA) reported the loss of Rs 1.76 lakh crore to the national bursary.
After the investigation in the 2g scam case, the CBI filed a charge sheet for bribery and corruption against Politicians, Bureaucrats and Government Executives, including A Raja and Kanimozhi of the DMK.
Andimuthu Raja became the main accused of the 2G scam who favored a selected group of telecom companies was charged with cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy.
A Raja and two of his inculpated former associates were arrested on 2 February 2011 and was sent to jail.
All the 122 (2G Spectrum) licenses allotted to the telecom firms in 2008, during A Raja’s tenure were ultimately canceled by the Supreme Court on 2nd February 2012.
On 21st December 2017, in a special CBI court at Delhi, all the 17 accused, in the 2G scam case were acquitted, in the absence of proof & evidence.
