Former Gujarat Chief Minister, Anandiben Patel has been appointed as the new Governor of Madhya Pradesh by President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on 19th January 2018.
Anandiben Patel took charge as the new Governor, on 23rd January 2018, succeeding Om Prakash Kohli (Additional Charge, since 8th September 2016)
In 1987, Anandiben Patel became a member of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and was appointed as the Gujarat Pradesh Mahila Morcha President.
In 1994, Anandiben Patel was elected to Rajya Sabha from Gujarat and as a Member of Parliament (MP)
Anandiben Patel as a Cabinet Minister for Education in Gujarat (2002 to 2007), started 'Lok Darbar' and also "Shala Praveshosav" the education department's flagship program, aimed to enhance enrolment in schools.
Anandiben Patel also held important portfolios of urban development, revenue, disaster management and many key projects such as leveraging female literacy in India.
Anandiben Patel became the first woman Chief Minister of Gujarat on 22nd May 2014, succeeding CM Narendra Modi after his incumbent as a Prime Minister of India.
Anandiben Patel, the 15th Chief Minister of Gujarat on 7 August 2016, resigned from the services of CM, expressing overage reasons.
