Amit Shah is an Indian politician serving as President of the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
Amit Shah is the chairperson of National Democratic Alliance (NDA) since 9 July 2014. He is MP of Rajya Sabha for Gujarat constituency since 19 August 2017.
Amit Shah joined BJP in 1986. He was elected as an MLA from Sarkhej in four consecutive elections: 1997, 1998, 2002 and 2007. He was MLA from Naranpura (Gujarat), elected in the 2012 elections.
Under Shah's leadership, the BJP achieved success in Legislative Assembly election in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand and Assam in 2016, but lost the elections in Delhi and Bihar in 2015. In 2017, the BJP won Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand elections and marked the party’s strong debut in Manipur.
Amit Shah has gained recognition as an excellent election campaign manager, and has been dubbed a ‘modern-day Chanakya and master strategist’.
