World Urbanism Day 8 November: Details, Significance, History

World Urbanism Day, also known as "World Town Planning Day," is observed on November 8th around the world to recognize and promote the importance of planning in the development of livable cities.

History of the day

The late Professor Carlos Maria Della Paolera of the University of Buenos Aires, a graduate of the Institut d'urbanisme in Paris, formed the international organization for World Urbanism Day, also known as "World Town Planning Day," in 1949 to promote public and professional interest in planning. On November 8th, it is observed in more than 30 nations across four continents. It's a unique day to honor and highlight the importance of planning in the development of livable communities.

The American Planning Association (APA) encourages its members to think about planning challenges and solutions around the world on World Urbanism Day, an event that appeals to the conscience of citizens and public authorities to draw attention to the environmental impact resulting from the development of cities and territories, and the American Planning Association (APA) encourages its members to think about planning challenges and solutions around the world on that day.
