Airports Authority of India (AAI) developing Palali Airport in Jaffna Sri Lanka

Airports Authority of India (AAI) develop strategically important Palali Airport (Jaffna Airport), Sri Lanka

Given China's growing influence in the Indian Ocean, India has taken a big strategic step. The government company Airports Authority of India (AAI) will now make overseas airports like private companies like GMR and GVK. AAI will develop the Palaly Airport of Sri Lanka. Strategically for Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka is an important area for India.

The Authority has signed an agreement with the Indian Ministry of External Affairs to prepare a detailed project report for the development of Palali Airport in Sri Lanka. Considering the efficiency and expertise of AAI in airport development and operation management, the Authority now wants to be global.

AAI has built more than 60 airports in metro and non-metro cities in India and now wants to give its expertise the benefits to other countries at large. Palali is a tamil region located in the northern region of Sri Lanka (Jaffna).

On the demand of Northern Province, India had promised to develop Palali Airport earlier. This airport will be the first airport of Sri Lanka in the North.

Having this airport, people from the Tamil community living in the northern region will be directly connected to South India, Malaysia and Thailand.

Palaly is very important in itself because it is in the sensitive Tamil-dominated Northern Province, which is traditionally close to India. Here, through development work, India wants to increase its influence in this part of Sri Lanka.

On Agreedance of Palali, recently, AAI Executive Director (Land Management and Business Management) Anil Gupta and joint secretary of MEA Sanjay Panda had signed.
