Veteran shooters Abhinav Bindra has made another name on Friday and he became the first Indian to win the ISSF Blue Cross honor. India's only Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra was given the top honors for shooting on Friday.
The biggest honor given by ISSF, the top organization of international shooting, is Blue Cross, and 36-year-old Bindra is the first Indian shooter to receive this honor. This award is given for outstanding contributions in shooting games.
He said I am honored to receive ISSF's top award. Working for athletes and ISSF was very good. Bindra won an Olympic gold medal (in the year 2008), a world championship gold medal (2006) and 7 Commonwealth Games gold medals in his career. Apart from this, he also has 3 Asian Games medals.
After winning the gold medal in the 10-meter air rifle event of the 2008 Olympic Games held in Beijing, he had joined the country. He has been awarded Arjun Award in 2000 and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2001. In 2009, he received the Padma Bhushan award. After losing his second Olympic medal in the 2016 Rio Olympics, Bindra decided to retire at the age of 33.
