International Day of Non-violence is celebrated every year on 2nd October around the world on the birth anniversary of India's 'Father of Nation' Mahatma Gandhi.
This year it was 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
International Day of Non-violence celebrations aims to promote the principles of non-violence through education and public awareness and is observed by all members countries of the United Nations.
In India, the International Day of Non-violence is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti (Birthday) to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who was a leader of the Indian independence movement and also a pioneer of the philosophy of non-violence.
The United Nation General Assembly (UNGA) through its resolution dated 15 June 2007 established the International Day of Non-Violence to disseminate the message of non-violence through education and public awareness.
The first International Day of Non-Violence was observed on 2 October 2007.
